Daytona Beach, known as the "World's Most Famous Beach," is the gateway to 23 miles of beaches crowded with sun-bathers, tourists and surfers. Tourists young and old gravitate to the Main Street Pier and Boardwalk to encounter a seaside bazaar of video arcades and fishing rentals, as well as a 4,500-seat cochina rock seaside band-shell. A short distance from the Main Street Pier is the Ocean Walk Village, a brightly colored area of shops, entertainment, resort facilities, restaurants and bars.
From February to April Daytona draws an eclectic crowd of race car fans, bikers and college spring breakers. Known as the "Birthplace of Speed," Daytona Beach is home of the Daytona International Speedway, famous for the NASCAR Daytona 500, Pepsi 400, and other races throughout the year. Located at the Speedway is the Daytona 500 Experience which thrills race fans with rides, video and interactive displays. In early March, some 350,000 motorcycle fans roll through the streets of Daytona for Bike Week, the world-famous festival that culminates with the Daytona 200, a super-bike championship race started in 1942.
During the rest of the year Daytona reverts to a quieter beachfront town suited for a relaxing family-oriented vacation. Daytona also has a number of cultural attractions such as the Halifax Historical Society and Museum, the Museum of Arts and Sciences, the Southeast Museum of Photography and many others.
It's obvious to see why Daytona Beach is such a hot spot. With something for every taste and every occasion, this beach is more than a vacation destination–it's an experience! Depending on the season, you'll find a different atmosphere every time, so be sure to visit this center of fun and festivals more than once!
Getting Around:
Daytona has many forms of area transportation; however, renting a car will be your best bet. Volusia County's Public Transit System runs a free shuttle around the Main Street Pier and Ocean Walk Village area as well as a pay trolley along Atlantic Avenue on the beach.
