For water lovers, Key West is protected from the seas by the only barrier reef in North America. The reef provides divers and snorkelers with breathtaking sights of coral and a profusion of brilliantly colored tropical fish. Key West is the perfect place to experience snorkeling and diving for the first time, or for the one-hundredth time! The incredible beauty of tropical fish and the sea life of the barrier reef will continue to amaze and entice visitors to get in and under the water again and again.
The Keys also offer world-class fishing on both the shallow water flats and the deep sea beyond the barrier reef. The shallow flats offer tarpon, bonefish, permit and barracuda plus many other species to take a cast at. The offshore waters hold plenty of opportunities for sport fishing for sailfish, wahoo, tuna, dolphin, marlin, snapper and grouper. Dolphin watch tours, jet skis, parasailing, glass bottom boat tours, and sunset cruises are all available year round in the Keys, so there are an abundance of ways to enjoy the crystal-clear waters and tropical climate.
Later, enjoy the ample nightlife or take a night cruise from one of many ports. Enjoy the tantalizing tastes of fresh seafood and fine dining featured in Key West, and if you're not afraid to show your wild side, check out Fantasy Fest in October–the city's most popular festival.
