As the only subtropical zoo in the continental United States, Miami Metrozoo is a place to meander through trails and encounter a wide range of animal life from Asia, Africa, Australia and Latin America. Metrozoo houses more than 1,200 wild animals in a cageless setting that closely approximates the animals' natural habitats and gives the visitor the feeling of embarking on an international safari. Large, open-air exhibits allow visitors to enjoy beautiful and endangered wildlife at a safe yet remarkably close range. With nearly 300 developed acres on a 740-acre parcel of land, you may forget there's a moat separating you from that lion, but don't worry. The lion knows it's there!
The subtropical climate of the Miami Metrozoo enables the Zoo to showcase animals that cannot easily be exhibited in colder climates. Koalas, komodo dragons, okapi and dozens of other animals that you may have never seen await around every turn. Or you can glide above this wildlife wonderland inside our guided, air-conditioned monorail. Or take a behind-the-scenes tram tour. Or pedal through, with the entire family, in one of our four-wheeled Safari Cycles.
And then there is the American Bankers Family Aviary, also known as "Wings of Asia." This is home to one of the world's greatest collections of Asian birds and boasts quite a few conservation success stories (conservation is our top priority and we're a fully-accredited zoo). You can also see life-size dinosaur fossils, before entering the aviary, as we explore the origins of modern-day birds.
Finally, you can even see Nick Jr.'s Go, Diego Go! Diego and his animal-rescuing friends leap into action every day in Diego's Discovery Den, a Nickelodeon-produced show that delights kids of all ages while it educates them about the world of animals.
Miami Metrozoo is rated among the top ten zoos in the U.S. by Travel & Leisure magazine, voted # 1 for family fun in Miami by the Best of Citysearch, consistently voted by the readers of South Florida Parenting Magazine as Miami's best attraction and the Zagat Survey "Top-Rated Attraction in Miami" by travelers who have experienced traveling with children. Miami Metrozoo: One of the biggest, one of the most unique and, definitely, one of the best zoos in the world!
